two more housesLooked at a couple more houses today. The first one was actually nicer than I was expecting. The basement door made it pretty obvious that they were renting out the basement. That's usually a bad sign. Renters generally leave a trashed place behind. And I don't know... they might have. Everything inside had been redone. New carpets, paint, everything. Still, the basement was set up as a couple apartments, each with their own bathroom. Which means it would probably end up being wasted space for me. I could probably knock out a wall, but that would probably mean replacing new carpet. I'd just feel bad. In the end, it's pricey, a little farther out than I want and bigger than I need. Next! This one was pretty nice. The interior decor was pretty questionable in spots, but nothing that couldn't be changed easily. (They had a bead curtain between the kitchen and the living room. A bead curtain! This house was built in 1987. There's no excuse for that). The basement was all stucco, brick and horrible laminated panelling, and had wasted a lot of space on a big storage room. It did have a garage and central air and stuff. Kind of tempting. Again, though, far and expensive. The basements are becoming something of a deciding factor for a lot of these, I'm finding. I want finished, but not too finished. And no damn apartments. Because what I want to do is set up a home theatre down there. For something like the Thistleglen place, I wouldn't feel too bad ripping it all out and starting over. I'll probably end up doing at least a little work on it no matter what. But it's all a balance of things, you know? comments:This post is archived. Comments are disabled. Feel free to send me email if you have something to say. | |
