screening calls
Well, I have to admit, some spam subject headings do manage to grab attention... Speaking of unsolicited sales pitches, I've started screening my calls. Given that all my friends and family are on IM, I get maybe one useful call a month. And too many stupid telemarketers. So I turned the ringer off and dusted off the old answering machine. I'm going to cancel Call Answer because I just noticed they started charging me for it. My answering machine is a bazillion times more useful in that it has a big flashing red light on the front. I've left voice mail messages sitting on my phone for weeks because I never have a reason to pick up the phone. The only potential advantage of Call Answer is that people can leave a message if I'm on the phone. But I'm never on the phone, so it's not exactly necessary. And it's not like I'd pick up the phone again after I've hung up anyway. So, if for some reason you do decide to phone me, you'll get an answering machine. Don't bother hanging up and trying again later. You'll get an answering machine then too. Start talking and I'll pick up if I'm at home. I feel a bit hypocritical doing this because I hate answering machines and almost never leave messages. But I also hate telephones. And telemarketers. So on balance I think it all works out. comments:This post is archived. Comments are disabled. Feel free to send me email if you have something to say. | |
