merlin mann's gtd talk

There's a delicious irony in spending an hour listening to a personal productivity speech when I'm supposed to be doing work.

I still don't grok Getting Things Done, and I'm still not convinced it's for me, but I'm getting there. I like my happy-go-lucky lifestyle, but as my job, my life, and everything gets more complicated, I'm really going to have to come up with something just to keep on top of things.

Merlin is fun to listen to, if nothing else.

It was great while it lasted, wasn't it?

songbird

Here's an app with potential, even if it's got a long way to go. The coolest thing about it: using it to surf MP3 blogs.

Mind you, MP3 blogs seem to have faded in popularity a bit (in favour of podcasts?).

I'd want to use it for podcasts, but I don't think it's quite there yet. Tighter integration with firefox and some of these sites, and this could really be something.

I think I'll stick with foobar2000 for my regular listening, though.

Not really the season for it, but I wanted to hold onto the link.

windows metafile vuln

Catching up on podcasts, Security Now! mentioned the Windows Metafile vulnerability. Here's a link to an unofficial patch.

I first heard about this from my uncle at my cousin's wedding. In my defense, I don't read crap like Slashdot while I'm on vacation.

This thing seems to be pretty nasty, and there are websites and worms out there that are already exploiting it. Applying the patch is probably a good temperary measure, even if it isn't an official release.

merry mixmas

DJ Riko's Merry Mixmas mix tape MP3s were used to great effect at Saturday's Christmas party. Nice if you're looking for a few hours of... uh... non-traditional Christmas music.

home for the holidays

Just a note... I'm heading back to Belleville tonight, and will be there till New Years Eve. Hopefully I'll be able to get in touch with Matt. I've heard various other people might be in town as well, so maybe we'll get a chance to meet up.

studio ghibli's earthsea movie

o_O Hayao Miyazaki's son, Goro Miyazaki, will be directing a movie based on Ursula K. LeGuin's Earthsea novels.

"Ged Senki - Tales from Earthsea" will be out in July 2006.

Time to finish reading the books, I think. A Wizard of Earthsea is wonderfully rich, symbolically dense and way too clever for its own good. It'll be interesting to see how much of that carries over. I'm betting not much, but it's a nice little story anyway.

diy home theatre cables

My electronic engineering background is pretty weak, but this looks like fun. Something to consider when I start putting together my home theatre room, anyway.
