rest you merry

I just finished reading Rest You Merry by Charlotte MacLeod. I picked it up as it was listed as one of the "archetypes" of the Cozy, the Aunt Dimity books being another. I was a bit turned off by the cover, though. Why do mystery novels have to have skeletons on them? I hate skeletons. Do publishers really say "If it doesn't have a skeleton on it, how will anyone know it's a mystery?" There weren't any skeletons in the actual book, thankfully. Corpses, when they appeared, were quickly disposed of in the proper fashion.

I braved ahead anyway, and am glad I did. It was lots of fun, with quirky and witty characters. I think I'm going to hunt down other books in the series, although this is the only one I've been seeing in stores. (Yes, tink, I could try the library... But libraries want books back, and I usually just don't read that fast).

I should get to bed. I need more sleep.

Don't be silly, darling--authors need to make a living, y'know. Libraries are best used for research, items that you want to try but are totally unsure of, and for books that you expect to finish in a day or two and will never touch again. If you are like my sister who buys a book and then savors it for several days or weeks in the reading, then it's money well spent. :>
