SuSE 8.0

I picked up SuSE Linux 8.0 from Future Shop today. I've been thinking about getting it for ages, and debated whether I wanted to buy burned ISOs or look for the commercial package somewhere. I was leaning towards commercial package because (a) I can afford it, so there's that whole "buy what you like" obligation thing kicking in, and (b) I like owning boxes. No idea why. Boxes are cool.

When SuSE appeared on the shelf at Future Shop, I took it as a sign from the Fates. I was thinking I might have to order it from the UW Computer Store, or go to Toronto or something. I got the Personal Edition because, while the machine it's going to run on is going to do server stuff (OpenSSH, samba, maybe MySQL, etc.), it is mostly for play purposes, and will hide itself behind my firewall. Besides, it's not like I can't download that stuff and save myself the $60.

I'm going to have to break it to my sister that the computer she's been using for email is going to be running Linux soon. This won't stop her from doing whatever it is she does, but I'm sure I'll hear about it anyway. Oh well.

Presently, I am amused that the SuSE people pepper their user manuals with bits of German. Like using "Achtung" for inset warning boxes and things. These guys are cute. That's why I like them.
