Sorry, no picturesI went out to look at a couple more houses yesterday. And I came across one I really liked. The price was a bit high, but they'd put a hell of a lot of work into it. It backs onto a schoolyard with a nice little creek in between, which is pretty neat. There wasn't a lot of room in the rec room for my home theatre vision, but I figured I could put in an offer and see what happened. When I was talking to my agent about getting the offer together, she sent along another place. I figured we could go and check it out and it would be kinda crappy and I could feel better about my decision. We get there, though, and the place is actually pretty awesome. It's got a huge backyard with lots of trees. It's in a great little neighbourhood. It's got the full basement, not cut in half by the garage like the other place. Not recently renovated like the other place. The only real downside was that there wasn't a washing machine. And the only way to get out to the back yard is through the garage. The owner smokes, too, but it wasn't bothering my allergies when I was in there. Everything was clean and well taken care of. While we were there, the people who live there came home. The old guy who owns the place is moving into a retirement home. He raised his family there. He might even be the original owner. His wife died, but he had a woman who lived with him. She's a widow herself, and she lives in the basement (and did all the cleaning). It's a darn nice basement, too. So there goes my plan to quickly rule the place out. I've asked my agent to put in an offer. I'm gonna offer $210,000, more than I was going to offer for the other place. I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to afford that while I'm still making car payments (until October), but I'll figure something out. I might not get it. I'm okay with that. It'd be a great place to live, though. Small update... My agent called. There's another offer on the place. I have no idea what it is, but if they're serious, there's not a lot I can do to fight them. I said I'd be willing to drop my conditions (things like appliances and home inspection)... I'm kinda wondering if I maybe should've offered to go higher. I can't go *much* higher. That price is starting to get close to my CMHC insurance limit. I'm not entirely sure what sort of monthly cost I can afford. Because I'm not sure how much of my money goes to buying crap I don't need. (I like buying crap I don't need, but I don't have to. So it's fudge factor). And another... The other offer was identical. Stalemate. I think I'll increase a bit and give the agent more flexibility. I can cover the downpayment for anything I can get, and adding $5000 to the price is maybe a $25-$30/month difference. Gah. I'm gonna have a hard time sleeping now. I was being relaxed about this stuff, too. comments:
