customer support

I'd been on a roll all week, fixing about 2-4 bugs a day. (Wednesday was the 2 day, which slowed me down because QA posted a critical bug that turned out to be a configuration problem on their end). Today: nothing. Well, I got some stuff done, but nothing is closed. Oh well. We're allowed a slow day every once in a while.

There's a support conference thing here at work. People from the UK and Germany offices are in for training and stuff. Whatever they do at support conferences. Actually, I guy in from the UK brought in a bunch of Walkers potato chips. Er, crisps. Mm, Marmite. I particularly liked the Great British Dinners series. The Roast Beef with Yorkshire Pudding ones were actually good. The Lamb with Mint Sauce... not so good. Sadly, no Greek Kebab flavour (that's Gyros to you and me).

Speaking of Support, they're hosting some sort of "Customer Care Outing" for us lowly developers who've helped them with customer issues. That's tonight. So I'll probably pass. The free drinks weren't much of a draw anyway. I am a little disappointed that these things always seem to conflict with other things. I'd like to get out for these little coworker socialization events more, but it never seems to work out. I never really know what to do with myself at those things, but it's probably time I worked on figuring that out.

Next Friday? I don't think I have a plan. I want to go back to Belleville sometime soon, but that can wait till Thanksgiving.

Why? Anything interesting happening? ^_^

Well, I might drop by if people are available. I've got a wedding to attend in London on Saturday and since Waterloo's on the way..

Woo! We could meet up somewhere for something to eat. I believe John's free Friday as well. If there's anybody else you'd like to invite along, by all means. ^_^

Who's getting married? Anybody I know?

Just a cousin. Invite whoever who wouldn't turn the place into a bloodbath. I need to leave the city by 8:30 though for another engagement.

Oops, make that 7:45. Seems like I have to be in London earlier. How long does it take to drive down there?

From Toronto to K-W? About an hour, depending. K-W to London? A bit more than an hour, with the caveat that getting into London (downtown in particular) can be a bit of a pain.

That's not a whole lot of time. Hm. Any preferences on where you'd like to meet?

Since you're a bit pressed, I'm going to suggest the Vietnamese restaurant in downtown Preston (in Cambridge). Ben Tranh or Pho Nam Thanh or Anam Thanh or whatever they're calling it now. It's the place that used to be across from Harvey's in downtown Kitchener, but they moved a while ago to make way for the new farmer's market. I haven't been there since they moved, and it has the added bonus of being near the 401.

Scarborough - KW 1 hour 15 minutes w/o traffic jams

KW - London also just over 70 minutes w/o traffic jams

You coming in on Friday will be tough. Leaving TO will be slow until you reach Mississauga, then traffic will be heavy as you approach KW on the 401.

Ah ha! But I plan to leave early (some time after lunch) to beat the rush. If you guys aren't working, we can hang for a couple of hours before dinner. (Or I can just wander around campus and reminisce..)

Clever.

I'm working, but I can duck out a bit early, probably.

I wouldn't mind seeing that, actually. I would have bought it for CTRL-A to show, except it's pretty expensive and the Philistines would have whined about it constantly.
