microsoft trip - days 3 and 4

Note: I wrote this up on Tuesday. Didn't get a chance to post it here till today. Update: I'm all back now and stuff.

Well, it's done. The Microsoft thing went better than I was expecting, I think. I got to vent some spleen about some things that really urk me about their implementation and they actually listened. Whether they do anything about it (the big stuff, anyway... the little stuff I don't think will be a problem) is something else entirely.

Yesterday went pretty well, but I felt pretty rotten when I got back.

Today we had a little bus trip to the Microsoft store. I just browsed around, expecting to go home and shop at the online store (maybe spreading the wealth around a bit, since I don't really need a lot of this stuff).

Just as we were leaving, though, one of the other guys there asked about shipping. Then a thought occured. "Do you guys ship to Canada," I ask innocently?

Blank look. "Hey, do we ship to Canada?"

"No. 'Cuz we can't handle the taxes and duties," a more managerly type answers.

"Oh."

So I hold everybody up and pick up a few things more or less at random off the shelves. A copy of XP Pro for my parents for US$25 and a five or so PC games for $15 each. Woo, $15 Halo! Would have been nice if I'd got stuff for other people, but it was kind of a spur of the moment thing.

They had Streets and Trips with a USB GPS dongle for $60, which would have been cool. If I, like, had a laptop which would run Streets and Trips. They were flying off the shelves.

I went to the nearest mall after I got out this evening to get an extra carry-on bag, since I couldn't carry on my carry on bag on the way here, and I have more stuff now. They had an Apple store, which was cool. And a LEGO store, but the Waterloo has one of those. And all the CD/movie stores have very large anime sections with manga. Suncoast had stuffed Menchi (from Excel Saga) and Yuki (in rat form, from Furuba) dolls. That was pretty awesome. I didn't buy anything, though, besides the bag. I think I've spent too much on this trip already.

This has been fun and everything, but I'd be much happier if I had somebody along to hang out with.

Plane leaves tomorrow around noon. I'll lose three hours in the air and get back late tomorrow night.
