hockey finals update
They lost. Poor Mindy. :(
It basically comes down to the fact that Laurier played a better game. Mind you, neither team played particularly well. Queen's held them to 1-0 throughout most of the game, but Laurier managed to come back with an impressive hat trick in the last 15 minutes.
Mindy somehow managed to break a skate before the game. The team sent my parents around town trying to get that fixed (I wonder what they would've done if they weren't there). My dad spent the first period at the mall, with only three broken drill bits to show for the effort. That didn't do much for anybody's spirits and Mindy played the game of borrowed skates. She did manage to get the assist on their only goal, though. And silver is better than Queen's has done in a long time.
And that, as they say, is that. I guess this means no more hockey. Which, in turn, means significantly less stress for my parents.
Who am I kidding? They'll find something to stress over.

Hockey? Over? Less parental stress? lol! Not here! We just got home from another out of town weekend tournament. Seems we fared better than Mindy. Tink jr. came out of it with an MVP award and her team the Championship trophy. But no, it's not quite over. We still have house playoffs (a two game series), plus another game for her other team. 42 games played on the season: yellow team is 20-5-3 and the blue team 7-6-1. Oh, and let's not forget the orange team, the temporary 3-on-3 tournament team that went 4-1-0 last Christmas. I wonder if we'll be orange again for the Spring 3-on-3 tournament?
Hope Mindy gets some really cool new skates to replace the broken one. How on earth do you break a skate, anyway? Slamming the blade into the boards or goal posts? Hm...

That's too bad, there's nothing like inopportune equipment failure. I suppose that if she does continues playing that she'll know to have a backup pair of skates since other than sticks they're the only piece of equipment that can't be readily fixed, at least fixed enough for a game or two.
Broken drill bits? I would have to guess that broken rivets were the problem. I'm kind of surprised that the rink didn't have a pro-shop or was it closed since it was Sunday.

I have no idea how she did it. This is the second time she's done it in a tournament, apparently. She broke the plastic bit that holds the blade to the boot (not the blade itself). The drill bits were broken attempting to remove stripped screws so they could replace the blade assembly.
The rink was a general-use sports complex and community center. They might do sharpening, I dunno.
Hurray for Jr.! :)

Huh, I guess she didn't learn her lesson the first time around. :P
Speaking of women in hockey, I saw that Tanya Harding is going to play a game for some minor league team on the news tonight. If that isn't enough of a drawing attraction the team is guaranteeing there will be a fight that night or tickets for another game (they must not have a very good team to stoop to this kind of promotion).
