ups is retarded

Hm. My downstairs neighbour came up to apologize about her teething baby crying. She looked a little harried. But actually, I hadn't heard her daughter crying for a few days. It's pretty faint when I do hear it. And especially if it's at quarter to five in the morning, there's no chance I'm going to hear it. I can sleep through my alarm clock going off beside my head. A wailing baby on the other side of six inches of concrete isn't going to be noticed.

I have to wonder, though, if she can hear me bashing around up here. I do keep odd hours. My paranoid, brain makes me contemplate whether this is some sort of subtle hint that I should keep it down. Which seems silly when I type it out loud. But that's my brain for you. It does these things.

I got my new Zalman CPU cooler for the PC (much quieter now!) and RAM upgrade for the iBook (noticeably faster now!). I'm happy, but I swear, I'm never having anything shipped through UPS again. They make it ridiculously difficult for somebody to just pick up a stupid package. And since I'd rather not take a day off work just to accept a delivery, that's kind of what I'd like to do. That, and their "customer service" kiosk is a desk in their warehouse (which is on a hidden cul de sac on the exact opposite side of town). There's just a yellow line on the floor to separate the customer waiting area with the shop floor. So I got to see what they do to packages being shipped. It's not pretty. Oh, I'm sure other carriers aren't much better, but at least they have to decency to hide people tossing your stuff around in a back room somewhere. It's only polite.

So, anybody need 128MB of PC2100 200 pin notebook memory? Just asking.

Ohmigod--I have *exactly* the same problem with UPS!!! In fact, last December when I had ordered some hockey gear for my daughter, we really needed them in time for an upcoming early Saturday morning game. Yet even tho' they arrived in my town on Thursday morning and delivery was attempted that same day, naturally it was during my work hours (and my roommate who was home half the day had also left by then) so I didn't get them. Their next indicated attempt was also slated to miss both of us (of course, when is it otherwise?), so I called that same night to try to re-route them, but due to a ridiculous series of errors not only did that fail but the packages ended up being misplaced altogether! It wasn't until late Friday night--and several phone calls later--that they even *found* the stupid packages again. So, because they were open Saturday (for a whopping four hours, for pick-up only but not delivery, and only because it was holiday time) and I was willing to make the drive to the (yes!!) cul de sac across town, I finally got them. But not, alas, until *after* the critical game. Grrr...I must admit, tho', that all of their employees were very nice to me in spite of my obvious stressing over the whole situation.

And no, I don't need any PC2100 memory, thanks for offering. A bit more for my brain, perhaps, would be useful--life is so hectic anymore that I've had to break down and start keeping *lists*, for god's sake. (My uber-organized Capricorn sister would die of shock if I confessed this unlikely lifestyle change, heh). Congratulations on your new gizmos, dear. Happy computing! ;>
