shopping in a winter wonderland
Hurray! I finished my Christmas shopping yesterday!
Good thing, since it hasn't stopped snowing since I got up. I did it all without going into a mall, too. I did spend money at Future Shop and Best Buy, but I don't think those count. I go in there anyway. I'm hoping the stuff I bought online arrives soon. If it doesn't, then I won't be done. Come on, DVD Soon! I'm counting on you!
I actually went up to St Jacobs today. I've only been there twice--the last time was with my parents. (I go to the farmer's market/outlet store a bit more, mostly because it's the same distance as the mall and a slightly nicer walk. I don't really consider that part of St Jacobs, though. Not when it's right down the street). The first bit of excitement was had a few minutes into my browsing. The power went off. I heard a cashier start to cry. It was somewhat amusing, though, to see the Christmas shoppers drifting out to the sidewalks with bewildered looks on their faces. It came back on after about fifteen to twenty minutes.
I went into a gift shop to look for stuff for my mom. It's the kind of place she really likes—lots of not really hand made stuff that's always the same in every one of these places you go into. I was a bit surprised to see one of my coworkers, Cindy, poking around looking at stuff. She was there to spend a gift certificate she'd received as a wedding present. She didn't seem to happy about that, and was spending most of her time making fun of things like the stuffed elephant toilet paper holders. There's a considerable amount of kitsch at these places.

Belated congratulations on the completed Christmas shopping!
A hearty thanks on the Samba advice too. I'd use Win2K, but it's vile (I find it incredibly sluggish to start... which I suppose shouldn't be a problem, however...).
I'll keep you posted on how it goes.
BTW, we're evaluating ActiveReports by DataDynamics at work. It's not likely to mean the end of Crystal, but maybe it'll be an alternative (it's not as great as I remember it, but ... it's a matter of familliarity I guess).
Take 'er easy!

I'll be back in town tomorrow night, incidentally. I'll poke you if I see you online. If not, I'll probably give you a call this weekend sometime.

Sounds cool!
I should have some time Sunday at the very least (Robin and Thomas are going to Montreal for the day -- family visit).
Other than that... I'm not sure what this weekend holds. :-)
(Just that it's getting here at about the right time!)

Merry Christmas, Squirrel! I'm sitting here with a furry little kitty on my lap, a gift box of chocolates next to my keyboard, and wondering that as it is now after midnight is it safe to sneak into the bedroom and get the stocking stuffers out? And expecting a nice and happy Christmas day all around. I hope yours is too, dear. :>
