ugh

I'd prefer not to acknowledge the existance of 5:00am. Unfortunately, my tummy isn't cooperating and I'm waiting for the Pepto Bismol to kick in.

I'll be very happy when this election thing is over and done with. There was a time, not too long ago, when I considered myself above politics. Aloof. Politicians were just subtle shadings of the same thing and it didn't really matter who got in. Because, and this is the important part, deep down, they were all working towards the common good. I was a bit naive.

That was before I realized how much I really fucking hate neo-conservatives.

It really doesn't matter what party they belong to. I hate the bastards. It's not a left-wing/right-wing thing. I don't really mind old-fashioned conservatives. I think Brian Mulroney was unfairly demonized, for example. Since then, though, we've been left with the Ralph Kleins, Mike Harrises and George W. Bushes of the world. People whose sole aspiration for government is to dismantle it. Well, everything except the police and the military. Their only goal is to destroy, abolish and sell off everything that's been built up for the last two centuries, piece by piece, asset by asset. Until we're all living in some fucking Ayn Rand utopia where we're happily tucked away in our shack in the woods, clutching our shotguns to our chest, daring our former fellow citizens to take one more step and we'll blow their fucking heads off.

I don't think I'm exaggerating.

I deeply want these people out of politics. So much it hurts. I want them gone right now. But mostly I don't want to think about it anymore.

Hey!

It's interesting to see you riled. :-)

5:00am and tummy trouble bring out a side of you I haven't seen before. Can't say that I don't disagree...

Politics should be a place for people who want to be there. It should be for the betterment of the population (in a democractic society). It should be about more than the bottom dollar.

Unfortunately, nobody seems to have the patience to see the tough stuff through.

I wasn't impressed by our big three. I just understand how they think they're going to pull off what they are proposing.

Oh well, I've got some time to think about anyhow.

Hope the Pepto kicked in. :-)

Hmm... "Can't say that I don't disagree..." Let's just say that I'm sympathetic to your position.

{It's clearer that way.}

I don't think elections should be about the details. Politicians don't really have control over those anyway. That's the realm of the civil service. Politicians can only set general direction.

Yes, last night's debate was next to useless for figuring out what that general direction was. I'm going by track records and general philosophies.

If I actually took a look at the details of Jean Chretien's platform knowing what I know now back in 1993, I certainly wouldn't have voted for his party (even if Lyle's a pretty swell guy). I've generally been more happy with their performance than not, though. I suppose it helps that I don't care about small change expense report scandals.

To be honest, if it means I can have a doctor, if it means that my theoretical future children will actually have textbooks and if it means I can drink from the tap without keeling over dead, the government can have the extra $400/year. That's, uh, not very much. Having that in my pocket certainly doesn't make up for the turmoil of the last 8 years.

Funny timing, your post and then I read this article:
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030927/ap_on_go_co/janklow_4

So, Mr. House of Representatives says it's too bad he killed a guy, but gosh, he was driving too fast to stop at the stop sign to keep from hitting the motorcyclist. Hm. But, y'know, he's pleading innocent. (??? I need to brush up on my definitions of "innocent" and "guilty", 'cause doesn't the fact that he says he's sorry he did it an admission in itself???) And even if he is charged (with speeding, reckless driving, running a stop sign, and MANSLAUGHTER), the worst that will happen to him politically is he will be advised by the House ethics committee to refrain from voting in the chamber until his record is cleared, or he is re-elected? Um, how is he going to get to the chamber, anyway, if he's in jail? And why on earth would people re-elect a convicted killer? But ya know, if those conditions are part of the House committee rules, then one might assume it is because somehow representatives do still vote and get re-elected, conviction or not. And actually, the part that makes me laugh the hardest (I have to laugh or I might just kill someone myself) is where he says he still suffers memory loss and confusion from a head injury, but does not plan to resign because he can still carry out his duties.

Relax, Squirrel. At the rate they are going, it won't take long for the human race to annihilate itself, or at least our current civilization. Then all this nonsense we call politics will end of its own accord...
