my car
Okay, I don't actually have it yet. They didn't have the colour I wanted, so I'm picking it up when I go home for Thanksgiving.
I bought a car on Saturday. I didn't really mean to, but I was getting sick of car shopping, so I decided to just go with it. I didn't want to have to deal with another Mazda Guy. And I decided I really prefered to stick with my under $20,000 rule. I think I made up my mind in May sometime, actually. Here's a picture:
No, that's not really a picture of my car, because I don't have that yet. That's from the brochure.
It's a 2002 Toyota Corolla CE plus. It's black. I didn't haggle very hard, but I did get free rustproofing, etc. out of the deal. It's fast enough to scare my mom (which, admittedly, isn't hard). It could be neater (I couldn't convince him to give me power everything for the same price), but it goes. That's good. I'm happy anyway. I'll make it neater by putting a hula dancer on the dash board or something.

That's a nice looking car. And a 4-door for under $20k is also nice.
4 doors makes life that much easier. I had to shell out extra for 4, but it was worth it.
And odds are it goes better then mine, but I have a diesel.
Once again, nice looking car.

For most American/Japanese cars, 2-door is more expensive. Because this is a "coupe" which is "sporty." :P (Subcompacts like the Echo are the exception to this rule, 'cuz there's just no way you could ever make an Echo "sporty." :)
Around the time I was breaking my $20k rule by looking at the Protege5, I was briefly considering the Golf TDi, which gets insane gas mileage, and is deisel. The price tag (~$24k) and poor emissions kind of stifled the deal, though. :( I'd've preferred a hatchback, but the darn things are too expensive.

See, I looked at the emissions thing and couldn't make heads or tails of it. I looked all around the net(well, just most of the net) and still nothing to tell me what they meant.
But the price tag is right on, as I've said before, I sold my soul for that car....

I really wish they'd standardize some vehicle emissions numbers like they do for fuel economy. Right now, all they've got (in North America, anyway) is California emmisions levels. And they only publish ULEV and higher.
The Corolla is LEV (which is kinda sucky when most other compacts are ULEV nowadays). All I know is the deisel VWs are *not* LEV, except for special ones they sell in CA.
I don't like these classifications. I'd rather have numbers. Both the Honda Civic and Insight (the hybrid) are ULEV, but the Insight has considerably lower emissions than the Civic. Not enough to get it to SULEV, but lower all the same.
