Happy New Year's!My stay in Belleville is almost at an end. We just got back from my cousin's wedding. Well, the reception. Actually, it was more of a dinner. No speeches... no embarassing best man stories... I don't think there was a best man. Good food, though. My cousin's a chef. I think he did most of the cooking. I have no complaints. I mostly hung out with my extended family. I really have to brush up on my mingling skills. I spent a lot of time thinking I should be wandering around introducing myself to people and so forth. But then I thought I'd probably never see most of the non-relatives again anyway, and besides, I wouldn't be able to carry on any sort of conversation over the music. In retrospect, I realize that's a horrible attitude (and, in a nutshell, why I'm still single), but it seemed perfectly reasonable at the time. I spent most of my time instead chatting with my uncles (trying once again to explain what my job is) and with my sister's friend who's been here since yesterday and who was theoretically "filling in for my (other) sister." And that was nice. So again, no complaints. Christmas has been good. Very Christmassy. Besides the wedding, and a couple trips out shopping and things, I've done almost nothing the last few days. I've really needed to decompress. Apologies for not making more of an effort to try and meet up with people, though. I'd planned to, but vegetating won out. comments:This post is archived.
