stuff going on

I think I might very well be going to Toronto Trek this weekend. It's a spur-of-the-moment thing. Just Saturday. I don't think I've managed to convince anybody to come with me (the offer's still open, by the way), but I guess that's okay. I might meet up with people there. Even if I don't, I'll just buy stuff and will therefore be happy.

Oh, and there are a couple Doctor Who panels. Admittedly, I very likely know anything they're likely to say at them, but I'm feeling emboldened by all the news that's swirling around fandom lately. I feel the need to embrace the geekiness. Gather that sense of community or something. And buy stuff. That's what it's all about, really.

I think the Uptown Jazz Festival is this weekend. I keep meaning to go to that, but I never actually have. Maybe, if I'm not too tired or anything, I can wander down on Sunday and see if anything's going on. Tonight even, but it's kinda rainy.

Tuesday, I think lots of people are all going to see Pirates of the Caribbean. I'm debating League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I kinda liked the original comic, and I'm not sure I want to see it butchered. I guess it will depend on whether somebody says "Hey, do you guys want to go see...?" to which I'll reply "Sure."

Next weekend is another anime weekend. Two weekends after that, I'm going back to Belleville for the second wedding of the season. I'm thinking later this summer, I want to see The Adventures of Pericles. Likely in August sometime. I've already recruited John and Morag to go too. I've heard it's supposed to be very good.

Gosh, I've actually got a lot going on.

Very cool about the Dr. Who thing!

Apparently it's not the first go round for Richard Grant as the Doctor... Playing "The (Quite Handsome) 10th Doctor for Comic Relief in Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death (1999)"

Somebody has already added to update to the imdb... but it has yet to be made official. :-)

I read about LXG in Fantasy Magazine. The guy who did it said that he did take liberties, but tried to maintain the spirit of the individual. (Mostly done to tame some of the less savoury behaviour of the main characters, to add something for Americans to relate to, accounting for Sean Connery, etc.)

Anyhow, take 'er easy!

Hey [squirrel]! I just went to go see LXG/LEG (leg?) with Sarah yesterday... it sucked pretty hard.
Unless you wanna see Nemo pulling off lame-ass kung-fu moves and some low budget special effects, avoid at all costs. ;_;

Like Terminator 3, it made me cry tears of BITTER RAGE. ;_;

I heard Pirates was actually pretty decent, though.

What, you didn't like T3? I thought it was wonderful. Cheesy as hell and, as such, everything I'd hoped it would be.

LXG makes me sad. Tossing in American characters just to give Americans something to relate to just betrays the whole concept--romantic heroes defending the (corrupt and, in other ways, indefensible) British Empire. Go read the comic. It's worth it, and you'll see what I mean. Campion Bond, and the bits with "M" are really nifty. They probably just ignored all that stuff and replaced it with some big explosions.
