planning a trip to Ottawa
I got an email from my uncle last night. My aunt, in hospital in Ottawa with lung cancer, isn\'t doing so well. He\'s asking those who can visit in the next few weeks to please do so.
I\'m trying to figure out how I could swing that. If I was going to pick any weekend between here and the end of April, it would be this weekend, but of course it\'s a little late for that. It doesn\'t help that Ottawa\'s about seven hours away. I\'d need a day for travelling both ways.
I was hoping I could take a week off in May when the weather\'s nice and this moving stuff is done, stop off over night in Belleville both ways and meet up with Bill and my sister for her birthday and Liz and Jon and Anna and get a chance to visit then. Now it looks like I might not get that chance.
I\'m going to send a card, though. It seems a little inadequate, but I suppose it\'s better than nothing.
Right now, QYV is sitting on the (woefully unvaccuumed) floor of my living room checking email. We\'re waiting for John and Mor to get back from the hospital so we can go out and eat something. I probably should have told John to give me a call when they were done rather than go all the way home, but of course you only ever think of these things when you can\'t do anything about it.
Addendum
My parents are going up to Ottawa this weekend. So I'll go home tomorrow night and go with them on Saturday. I'm going to take Monday off so I'll drive back to Waterloo then.
My mom's taking this really hard. I think I'd like to be there for her as much as anything else. So I think this is a good idea.
