My Funny Valentine

I really liked Valentine\'s Day when I was a kid. It meant getting lots of chocolate and cutting and pasting construction paper hearts onto paper doilies. It meant cards with kitschy recycled artwork from the sixties and really bad puns. It was awesome.

The grown up version of Valentine\'s Day has just never been relevant. Honestly, I don\'t really care enough about it to be bitter. Even if I was in a relationship (and I had the opportunity to contemplate this recently) I don\'t think it would be very much fun. It\'s too much pressure. Sure, there would be novelty there the first time. But you\'d still be all worried about whether you were meeting the other person\'s expectations, whether you were doing enough, or doing too much and making the other person feel they weren\'t doing enough to reciprocate, or just plain freaking them out because it\'s only been two months and they weren\'t ready for anything crazy.

...That sort of thing...

It\'s probably better that I don\'t have to care.

If you do care, Happy Valentine\'s Day.

Really.

I mean that.
