Darcy Casselman's weblog. Just like old times.

cluttered

I got m'self the Metropolis soundtrack today. I'm quite happy about that. It will probably stay in the car for a while. The world needs more Hot Jazz!

I rode my shiny new bike to work yesterday. I was too lazy to do that today. I hafta get back in shape. I'd kinda like to go back and check out how the Grand River Trail is coming along (like I did last year, although probably the northern part). My new bike is better suited to the gravel, if that's still there. Although not much better if it's the same stuff. That was just stupid.

It's not really a mountain bike. It's a hybrid with mountain bike tires with a flattened top for riding on roads. It doesn't have any weird shocks or anything. That's fine. For the most part, I don't plan on blazing trails through wooded country-sides.

Still trying to figure out what to do with the old bike. I think I'll donate it to UW's bike shop. They might be able to do something useful with it.

Most of my weekend was spent cleaning my apartment. I don't think I have to go into why that was necessary. Fortunately, it's no longer a going concern. I'm not really done. The place is still cluttered, but at least it's clean. Being able to go into the kitchen without wretching is a good thing.

sell out?

This is interesting.

UW, is of course, my alma mater. Note however that my degree says BMath and not BEng.

I read the Globe article yesterday (no point in linking since it'll be gone in a week) and it didn't say anything about which department was introducing the C# class. But I knew it was E&CE. Buncha shills. It gave me a little thrill of pride to read the (decidedly negative, if diplomatic) CS faculty reaction to a similar proposal from Microsoft. As nice as that thrill was, though, it's kind of sad that the whole school is being tarred with the same brush.

In other news, day one of camping was fun, despite the downpour. Hurray for wienie roast! I still haven't gone canoeing though. That'll be today. Night one was less fun, and I'm having second thoughts about spending the night again. I didn't sleep very well last night and I feel kinda crappy today. We'll see.

camping!

Apparently I'm going camping this week. I'm not entirely sure how it came about (although I can understand why) or what's involved exactly, but I'm not going to turn down the invitation. It sounds like fun.

We're just going to the conservation area in town. It's actually walking distance from my apartment. This is good because I can't really take any more time off work right now, and the gang wants to go during the week when it's less crowded. So I figure I'll just go into work as normal, and then just go the extra couple blocks to the campground instead of my apartment. (This is where having a car comes in handy... I think I'll probably go back to the apartment in the morning to have a shower and change). And, if I manage to get everything done at work in the early part of the week (as presently seems likely), people won't mind if I show up late and leave a bit early.

I want to go canoeing.

I went and picked up a sleeping bag today. I'll have to find out if I need to bring anything else (although if I'm stopping at home every day for a shower, I don't think it'll be too much). We'll see. Fun! o^^o
