the flying squirrel

Darcy Casselman's weblog. Just like old times.

yay! I'm done!

I finally got our new Delphi integration done at work today. Well, mostly done. That was a major pain in the behind. I'd jumped at the chance to do it, mostly because I'd hoped it would give me a chance to actually make something... a decided improvement over the last few months of crappy bug-fixing. I soon came to realize, however, that people (read management) weren't terribly interested in it. Worse, a lot of the old code I was counting on being reusable simply wasn't. That probably wouldn't bother me so much (I like rewriting things), except that I'd have done things differently if I'd known I was scrapping the whole thing in the beginning, and it screwed up my estimates of the effort involved.

Oh well.. Live and learn. It's done now.

I was going to go to see Conspirators of Pleasure at the UW Fine Arts Film Society on Tuesday. Turned out I was worn out from work stuff, and it was all cold and snowy outside. But I should probably get out more.

I'll be heading back to Belleville for the weekend. The weather's looking better for the drive (even if it is incredibly cold). I don't know if I'll have a chance to give you a call, Matt. I'll be in Kingston most of Saturday (my sister's birthday's on Sunday). Besides that, I think the primary purpose for this trip is for me to do laundry. I will soon have clean clothes again. Saints be praised!

and we're back

The server's all upgraded, and stuff's slowly returning to normal. I still haven't got everything the way I want it, but them's the breaks. I've got a lot of fiddling to do. But that's why I like this stuff.

Like Matt said, don't taunt the flying squirrel.

I've had to shut down a couple OpenBSD security features to get stuff working. The way I look at it, it's still better than I had before. I'm going to see if I can get stuff running properly later. For now, I'm glad things are running at all. I get to do cool PHP4 stuff now. And I'll start working on nifty site features.

I saw Bowling For Columbine yesterday. Surprisingly, Michael Moore managed to not piss me off. It made me more sad than angry or satisfied or outraged or whatever. He's got a point, I think. It's not a bad movie to see, if you're so inclined.

I should also point out that, having seen the first 12 episodes now, G Gundam is the coolest show ever.

groundhog's day!

Hurray! An early spring! Can't come soon enough, as far as I'm concerned.

I made this for b3ta. Just 'cuz:

[What's he doing in there?]

I didn't do much this weekend. I'm getting a bit distressed that my free-time activities lately are all pretty consumer-related. I'll either be playing games or out wandering around stores occasionally buying stuff.

I really have to get back into creative stuff. I'm trying. I bought (*cough*) a book on Flash, which is starting to help. I haven't done anything yet (the above was done in PSP7 and Animation Shop). I'm thinking of interesting ways to photoshop kittens for b3ta... I haven't done a Fark photoshop in a couple weeks, but they haven't been too inspiring. I wanna upgrade my server... that's holding me up from playing with PHP and web stuff, like synching up this site with my livejournal.

In short, I should stop making excuses and do stuff. It's almost spring, after all.
